Since August 2026 I am Chief Technical Advisor and Senior Project Manager at WorldFish for RedSeaFish, the regional programme on sustainable fisheries management in the large marine ecosystem of the Red Sea. I lead the implementation across the programme’s regional components in the seven partner countries: Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. I am based in Cairo.

The programme is funded by the Global Environment Facility and run with the Food and Agriculture Organization. It works on four fronts: the fisheries data the region relies on, regional cooperation on protecting the ecosystem, the regulatory frameworks that govern fishing, and the knowledge and monitoring that hold the rest together. My own work sits closest to the first of these, which is where I have spent most of my research: reconstructing what is actually caught, and making the numbers usable by the people who set the rules.
